Mangaluru, March 17, 2018 : As the College holds a high esteem to be in the Platinum Jubilee Year as it celebrates a number of milestones during the year 2017-2018, it was an historic occasion of the Alumnae Association celebrating fifty golden years of its existence. A presentation by Mrs. Rose Pinto, the Secretary of Alumnae Association on the glimpses of Mother Josephine Memorial Lecture for the past 22 years brought back nostalgic memories and flashbacks. This gave an overview about Mother M Josephine A.C was the Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel pioneered the St Ann’s College on July 01, 1943. To continue the memory of establishing St. Ann’s College of Education in 1943 for providing professional and job oriented educational training for women with Mother Josephine as the leader (Superior General), the College decided to have an Annual Mother Josephine Lecture by an eminent scholar /educationalist in topical issues in education, status of women and many more.
This was planned on the occasion of celebrating the golden Jubilee in 1993. To venerate this service of Mother M Josephine A.C., and to foster and perpetuate comradeship and loyalty to our Alma mater, we the Alumnae of St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), along with the management and Staff have been holding the Mother Josephine Memorial lecture form the year 1994.
PROF. B.A Viveka Rai, Former Vice –Chancellor, Kannada University, Hampi and Karnataka State Open University, Mysore and Chief Guest delivered the lecture on the topic “New Spaces for Learning and Living”. The talk signified the importance of creating spaces for women and expanding their knowledge in the educational field. One needs to take the challenges in life very positively. Real examples of great women and their achievements were mentioned by the speaker. He spoke about the dimensions between well being and accomplishment of goals between men and women.
In conclusion, the speaker ended his talk by congratulating St. Ann’s College of Education in shaping women teachers for a better future.
Sr. Clare, A.C., the President of Alumnae Association welcomed and introduced the Chief Guest. A total of hundred and fifty alumnae were present. Sr. Teena Vas, Alumnus proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Anna Crasta, Graduate Assistant, Mangaluru compered the programme. Sr. Edna Furtado, the Joint Secretary,St. Ann’s Institutions Sr. Ida Barboza A.C, Secretary of the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society , Sr. Rose Agnes A.C , Asst Provincial Superior, Provincial House, St. Ann’s Convent and Sr. Nirmala Francis A.C, Provincial Counselor, Provincial House, St. Ann’s Convent were present.
