Udupi, Aug 25: The Inauguration of the Centenary Year of the existence of St. Cecily’s Convent at Udupi was celebrated on August 25, 2017 at 3.00 p.m. with a Solemn Eucharistic Celebration offered by Msgr. Rev. Baptist Menezes, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Udupi, as the main celebrant, along with four other priests of the Parish.
The Mass was followed by a get-together for which Sister Carmel Rita, the Provincial Superior of the Karnataka Province, Msgr. Rev. Baptist Menezes, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Udupi and Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, the Parish Priest of the Mother of Sorrows Church and Vicar Vara of Udupi Varado, were the Chief Guests.
The Programme began by invoking the Lord’s Blessings and praising God for the blessings bestowed for the past hundred years by the Apostolic Carmel Associates of St. Cecily’s Convent. Sister Maria Maisie the Superior of St. Cecily’s Convent welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. Sister Carmel Rita, the Provincial Superior paid homage to the Beloved Foundress of the Apostolic Carmel Venerable Mother Veronica of the Passion by garlanding her frame. A documentary depicting the beginnings of St Cecily’s Convent, way back in 1918 and its gradual growth for the past hundred years, was presented in a nutshell.
The Centenary Year was then inaugurated symbolically by the dignitaries lighting the lamp. Sister Carmel Rita, Fr. Valerian Mendonca and Msgr. Rev. Baptist Menezes addressed the gathering on the occasion, appreciating the loving labour of love put in by the A.C. Sisters for the past hundred years for the cause of education of young children and for the service rendered to the church and the society.
The Programme concluded by garlanding the statue of St. Cecilia, and singing a beautiful song of the centenary by the sisters of the community. The lyrics of the song were composed by Sister Apoline Baretto and the music was set by Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca. The entire programme was compered by Sister Apoline Baretto.
