Dec 11, 2019 : Today is a golden moment in the life of Sr Maria Shamita, our Provincial Superior. Her 50th birthday is an event worthy of celebration. It is a reflection of five decades of life, love and laughter, with yet more years ahead of a vibrant life of love and service.
The sisters of our local convents along with Sr Shamita met at the Eucharistic table with Rev Fr Victor DSouza as celebrant, to praise and thank God for the 50 golden years at St. Ann's Chapel. The liturgy conducted by St. Ann’s Community was devotional and melodious.
A simple yet festive celebration was waiting in the Community Hall after the Eucharistic meal. As she was ushered in, the fifty claps each, by the Sisters sent a message of joy and cheer. The emcee Sr Melissa's fitting words brightened the ambience in the hall.
Sr Maria Kripa, the assistant Provincial Superior adorned sister with a jasmine garland. The icing on the cake was not the cherry but the number golden fifty. The choir from St Mary’s Community seemed like the angels sent down as messengers of love and hope, greeted her with a melodious jubilee song. Sr. Roopa Rodrigues from St. Agnes Community voiced the words of greetings and wishes.
The power point presentation on her life reminded the sisters of her golden deeds of the past and a hopeful reminder as an apostle to her flock not with fifty deeds but fifty times fifty.
In response, Sr. Shamitha expressed her gratitude to her parents and family members, her formators and all her Superiors and Sisters who made her life meaningful in service. The celebration ended with a delicious breakfast.
