Dec. 08, 2017: St. Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous) - Celebration of Christmas with a difference (Christmas celebration at Snehalaya and Paschim – Rehabilitation Centres for the Destitute).
As the College has marched ahead in excellence towards the celebration of its Platinum Jubilee this year, an array of activities and achievements have been scheduled. Outreach programme to reach out to the downtrodden and the marginalised of the society is given prime importance among all these. This began with an extension activity – celebration of Christmas with the less fortunate, encompassing a visit by the B.Ed first and second year 97 students accompanied by the teaching faculty to Snehalaya, Pavoor and Paschim Rehabilitation Centre for the Destitute, Nehrunagar, Someshwar. The students inexorable in their yearning to meet the inmates of the two places sketched out various programmes and activities. Generous contributions in the form of cash, clothes, food grains, bed spreads and other useful products from staff, students and well wishers of the college were given to Snehalaya and Paschim.
With a vision of extending care and Asylum for the poor, needy and abandoned and with a motto of Love, Care and Service, Mr. Joseph Crasta, an inspiring personality and the founder of Snehalaya, a psycho-social rehabilitation centre makes a confirmatory impact in the lives of the less privileged with an approximate of 130 inmates. A purpose and a pledge to serve the needy has been the mission of Mr. Rohit Salctus and his wife Ms. Suneetha by running the Paschim Rehabilitation Centre having around 80 inmates. They all live on the providence of God and generosity of the well wishers.
Students and Staff actively participated in organising creative Christmas activities in both the houses. They sang carols, served snacks, conducted games and danced blissfully with the inmates who were thrilled by the friendly interaction and ecstatic spirit. Few of the inmates exhibited the marvellous skills they possess either through a dance, song or comedy. thus celebrated Christ’s birth in a meaningful way.
The students and staff were elated by the tremendous service and care rendered by Mr. Joseph Crasta, Mr. Rohit Salctus and their team for their extraordinary passion in dedicating their lives to the service of the needy. Students were reinforced with an empathetic attitude, faith and love towards humanity and a value of being considerate towards the needy. It was a memorable experience for both staff and students of the college.
This gracious task of conducting a visit to meeting the less fortunate was organised under the leadership of Dr. Sr. Clare A.C, Principal and Dr. Sr. Myrtle A.C, Vice Principal.
