Mangaluru 02nd February 2018: St. Ann's College of Education strives for quality education and prepares teachers for modern society with Personal, Academic, Research and Professional Excellence to spread the light of wisdom and knowledge to humanity.
The College has carved a niche for itself over the years with its establishment in the year 1943 as the first private training college in Karnataka State. It is now heading towards its Platinum Jubilee, Golden Jubilee of Alumnae Association, Silver Jubilee of starting the M.Ed Course and the sesquicentennial celebration of Apostolic Carmel.
As we look ahead, we can visualize that the College will grow into and give shape to all our dreams. It will continue to serve a significant role in higher education for girls and in the service of the country. To look ahead and visualize the College growing into higher standards of teaching and research, many achievements wherein an array of activities and events are planned all through this momentous Platinum Jubilee year and the first among these is the workshop on “Content Enrichment and Constructivist Teaching Methods for School Teachers”. The objective of the workshop was to complement the regular school syllabus with additional contents that goes beyond the realms of textbooks and classrooms by using different strategies of learning thus making teaching and learning more meaningful and thereby increasing student motivation and fostering the students’ social skills, learning strategies, independence, and self confidence.
Experienced Teacher Educators and Subject Experts conducted various sessions during the Workshop. The Programme commenced by a short inaugural function with the presence of Sr. Rose Agnes A.C, Asst Provincial Superior, St.Ann’s Convent Provincial House, Mangaluru as the Chief Guest. A documentary comprising of the glimpses of the History of St. Ann’s Institution and events planned for the Platinum Jubilee year were highlighted. After the formal programme , the sessions on constructivist methods were conducted on ‘New Paradigms of Learning’ by Dr. Vijaya kumari S.N, and ‘Learning Strategies’ by Dr. Flosy C.R. D’Souza, Associate Professors, St. Ann’s College of Education.
The content enrichment sessions were held in different subjects by Dr. Jayanth, Retired Professor, St. Agnes College, Mrs. Anitha Gomes, Graduate Assistant, St. Mary’s High School, Mr. Gopal Krishna Bhat, Graduate Assistant, St. Aloysius High School and Mrs. Dimple Quadros, Graduate Assistant, St. Agnes High School, Mangaluru.
The Workshop provided a strong platform for an exchange of a forum of vast experiences, ideas about teaching strategies in the learning process and supplemented classroom teaching. Fifty Teachers from various schools were present. Mrs. Sharmila Mascarenhas, Asst. Professor, St. Ann’s College of Education compered the programme. Dr. Sr. Clare A.C, Principal welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Rose Pinto, Asst. Professor, St. Ann’s College of Education and the Convener proposed vote of thanks. Fifty Secondary School Teachers were present.
International Workshop
St Ann’s College of Education will be organizing an International Workshop on ‘Accountable Education’ on March 23rd, 2013 at 9.30 am in the College Conference Hall with the main objective of expanding awareness regarding the concept of accountable education, introducing the distinction between performances and learning assessment and sharing some best practice teaching tactics.
The programme will be followed by an overview on accountability by Dr. Sue Fan Foo, Associate Professor, Department of Education, Worcester State University, USA and Dr. Clay M. Starlin, Director, International Educational Systems Project, Worcester, MA, USA. The workshop also includes Performance Assessment, Learning Assessment, Best Practice Teaching Tactics and Water & Our World. This will encircle the Teacher Educators, Research Scholars, Special Invitees, Students of B.Ed. and M.Ed. and the teachers in the campus.
