Mangaluru, July 24 : 

On July 24, the Church celebrates the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Established by Pope Francis in January 2021, the observance is celebrated each year on the fourth Sunday of July, coinciding with the feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary's parents and Jesus' grandparents, Sts. Joachim and Anne.

To mark this day, our Province held a day for 75+ sisters. Out of 69 sisters belonging to this age, 40 sisters arrived with a cheerful face to Provincial House, St Ann’s Convent. After a hello, hi, Praise be Jesus to each other and the refreshments, the programme began with a short prayer thanking God for the precious gift and for the contribution of our sisters to the growth and progress of the congregation. Dr Jessy D’Souza addressed the sisters on the topic ‘Tips for Health and Happiness’. She was overjoyed to see the presence of her Principal, Headmistress and Teachers and owed deep appreciation and gratitude.

After a short break, Rev. Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ shared with the sisters gems for ‘Ageing with Grace’. With his wit and humour, he put across the secrets of ageing with a grateful heart. All the sisters enjoyed the ‘Day Out’ which ended with a fellowship meal and went away with a deep sense of gratitude for the Provincial Superior and the team for organizing the same.

Sister Maria Shamita, Provincial Superior accorded a gracious welcome, Sister Maria Roopa introduced the speaker, Sisters Sylvette and Euna expressed words gratitude and Sr Rose Agnes conducted the spot games and compeered the Programme.
