International Women's Day celebration was held at Carmel Jamgi colony Hall on March 6th at 4 pm. Fr. Wilson Fernandes our Parish Priest and Mangala Bhagawat were the Chief Guests. They were welcomed warmly by our women. The programme began with a prayer followed by songs, skits, games and food without fire.
Sr. Prathima spoke on Leadership the women can take at home, in Sangas and in the Society. Mrs Mangala very nicely put before them the life of women with low cost celebrations so that they could be without debt. Sri Raju appreciated the selfless services of the women in their homes and society. Fr. Wilson spoke on different roles women take and urged them to cherish their motherhood always. Ninety five women participated actively in the celebration. They were given food packets. A lady by name Meramma and her family did not take any loan or debt to run the family or for any celebration. She was recognized and was awarded with a shawl and a prize. The similar programmes will be conducted in nine more villages till March 27th.
Celebration of Women's Day in the District Prison, Women's section
The Chief Superintendent gave the permission to celebrate International Women's Day in the prison. There were 15 women and a 4 year old boy. The inmates welcomed us warmly and expressed their joy of seeing Sister Christine after 2 years. We began with a short prayer service followed by a session by Sister Lucy on Leadership. We conducted two games which enthused them much. Sarees were given as prizes for the winners. The refreshments were served to them. Our sisters Lucy, Roshni and Prathima got very good exposure of visiting the prison and interacting with the women prisoners.
