The Apostolic Carmel Sisters of Udupi Diocese were looking forward to this red letter day, 23rd August 2020. The day dawned with showers of blessing of rain and grace refreshing the earth as newly elected Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, Sr Nirmalini along with Sr Shamitha, the Provincial Superior of Karnataka Province entered the portals of St Cecily’s Convent at 9.30 a.m.
The sisters of five Convents - St Cecily’s Udupi, St Maria Goretti Kemmannu, St Joseph’s Kundapur, Carmel Gangolli and Carmel Nivas Kallianpur gathered at the entrance of the Convent to welcome her in a unique way depicting the local culture with music and dance. Then we proceeded to the Chapel for prayer and paid allegiance to pledge our loyalty and obedience to the newly elected Superior General.
After a short break, felicitation programme commenced. The Superior of St Cecily’s Convent, Sr Maria Vibha extended words of welcome, followed by a greeting song by the sisters of St Joseph’s, Kundapur. Our Provincial Superior, Sr Shamita, along with Superiors of five convents honored the Superior General with Shawl, fruits, bouquet of flowers and gifts. Sr Rachana, her batch mate unfolded her great personality and achievement of being an authentic religious and a successful Principal of Carmel Convent School, Delhi and Provincial Superior of Western Province.
The sisters of Carmel Convent Gangolli expressed their gratitude and appreciation through an action song. Finally the moment came to give a listening ear to the message of the Superior General. She thanked the sisters for their warm welcome and greetings and expressed her feeling of anxiety to face the challenging situation of pandemic period and to guide the congregation to respond prophetically to the needs and challenges of our life and mission today. It’s the time she said to deepen our spiritual life and reflect whether our spirituality and mission blend together. She posed a few questions to us for reflection whether our consciousness of God has grown during the years specially this critical time. Finally she concluded by urging us to deepen our relationship with God and with one another and to reach out to the poor and needy. We enjoyed meeting each other, the fellowship meal and the sweet memories of the day.
