St Ann’s Teacher Training Institute celebrated its 130th Annual Day on February 19. The programme was presided over by Sr. Maria Kripa AC. Joint secretary of the college, Mr. Walter D’ Mello DDPI and principal DIET, Mangaluru, Dr Vijayalaxmi SN Associate professor St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous) Dr Mailini Hebbar N Associate professor St Agnes College, (Autonomus), Mangaluru and Abdul Latheef corporator Port ward, Mangaluru were the chief guests for the event. Walter D’Mello appreciated the contribution of the Christian Missionaries in all fields and specially in education.“Its EQ which matters today not IQ, a teacher needs to know the EQ level of every child in her care," said Malini Hebbar. Dr Vijayakumari SN invited the student teachers to carry with them the values and spirit of the alma mater in their future career.
Abdul Latheef appreciated the institute for its commitment in preparing the future teachers for the society. Sr Maria Kripa AC invited the student teachers to be effective teachers and moulders of those in their care
The programme was attended by the heads of the Institution, religious sisters, parents, staff and students on the campus.
It is the sesquicentennial year of the existence of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation in India, the institute revered the Foundress Mother Veronica, Mother Marie Des Anges the first Superior General and Mother Aloysia AC the Foundress of the training college and all the sisters who brought revolutionary changes in the field of education. The cultural programme depicted the culture of the coastal region of India. The Apostolic Carmel Congregation has made its presence felt specially through the mission of education.
The gathering was welcomed by Sr Pramila AC vice-principal, who also introduced the guests of the programme. They were honoured by Sr Maria Shubha AC principal of the college. Shaloola student president proposed the vote of thanks. Lavita D’Souza and Thaheen compered the programme.
