Carmel High School, Kemmannu

June 1971 ushered in brighter hopes for the people of Kemmannu who desired to have a Secondary School for girls in their locality. It was indeed difficult for girls to travel distant places like Milagres, Kallianpur and Udupi in order to get a High School education.

The Apostolic Carmel sisters who felt the pulse of their needs opened Carmel Girls’ High school in June 1971 with 20 students to cater to the needs of the girls especially those who pass through the portals of St. Philomena Higher Primary School in the campus. The number rose to 72 by July. So June 1st 1971 became the red letter day in the annals of Carmel High School.

The High school was exclusively meant for girls up to the year 2001. Later as many English medium schools opened in and around Kemmannu, there was a decrease in the number of admissions. The Management decided to keep open the education at Carmel Girls High School for boys too from the year 2002.

Carmel High School indeed developed in myriads of ways, taking into account the need and the requirement of the area. The Management has great satisfaction and takes pride in empowering the economically weak and poor students through a holistic education. The students who have moved out of the portals of this institution have excelled in every field and made a difference in the society.
