Shanthi Nilaya Preparatory School, Nanjangud

June 1, 1967, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a red letter day for the Catholic families of Nanjangud, a memorable day on which the Carmel English Nursery school was blessed. The repeated request of the late Bishop Mathias Fernandes was answered by the then the Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel, Mother Theodosia. It was the great love and zest, prayer and sacrifices of late Sister Carmencita, who worked with untiring effort and zeal, that made it possible to realize and fulfill this great dream. Sisters Carmencita, Lea, Fidel and Cherubina and other few people of the town were present for the opening ceremony. Mr. Thomas D’Souza, the copper merchant, who had put forward his wish to the Bishop of Mysore, on behalf of a few Catholic families in Nanjangud, was overjoyed and filled with gratitude, so do the local people of Nanjangud, specially the late Mr. Balasubramaniyam, who was a strong support to the sisters during the following years.

Later in 1968, the K.G. school was shifted to the present location in a small shed, near the bus stand. Then as the students increased better facilities were offered.

On November 29, 1989, the Nursery School had “Parents day” for the first time independently. In March 1992, a new building with 8 rooms was completed to be utilized by both the K.G. section and the Primary School.

As the strength of the students was on rise and also to provide better facilities for the students, the present spacious and beautiful building with the maximum facilities was erected. The building was constructed with the help of the Management and the parents and inaugurated on December 15, 2016 by Sister Carmel Rita, the Provincial Superior.

Looking ahead, we hope and pray that this Institution will grow from strength to strength in achieving its aims and objectives of preparing young minds in the school to face life. May our “Queen Mother Mary” who is the patroness of the school intercede for all of us to practice her virtues. We cannot do better than imitate her who went about doing good on earth. Let us make this Nanjangud, a better place to live where love, peace and unity reigns.
