St Philomena Higher Primary School, Kemmannnu
On 1st April 1933 St. Philomena Pry School, Kemmannu was established by Rev. Fr. S.P. Tellis for the all round development of catholic children. Students of Std I to IV were in one room till the school building was ready. After a few years a generous donor Mr. Peter Rebello gave some land on which the present building stands. On 25.3.1933 the school was handed over to the Sisters of The Apostolic Carmel Congregation. Sr. Benigna was the first headmistress. In the year 1934 December the classes from 1st to 8th got permanent recognition and the school was called as St. Philomena Hr. Pry school as per the government order 1934 dated 18-10-1935.
On 21-11-1935 the annual school day was grandly celebrated for the first time and Dr. Picardo and Mrs Gracian Rego offered all the financial support for this venture. District Educational Department kept an exhibition in the school in which two of our students won Laurels. Thus the fame of this school increased greatly. In 1996 this school was shifted to the present school building. The Holy childhood Association sent us Rs.25,000 dollars as their generous contribution towards the construction of this school. One of the most popular schools in Udupi Taluk and District has been St. Philomena Higher Primary School, Kemmannu located on the Main road.
The school has spacious class rooms, all class rooms are monitored by CCTV library cum T.V room, computer facilities and playground. Students participate in zonal, Taluk level sports and win prizes.
