Carmel Vidya Vikas School, Bailhongal

Two A.C sisters set their foot in Nesaragi –Bailhongal in July 1999. The sisters came to study the region and noted that the mentally challenged children, adults and persons with other disabilities were neglected. On an experimental basis a small rented house was started for the mentally challenged students. When a place was found in Bailhongal the school was shifted there in April 2005.

The public of Bailhongal who had tasted the fruit of Christian education in Vidya Mandir at Madanbhavi and Nesaragi requested Sisters to start a regular school for their children. On the day of the Inauguration of Vidya Vikas Kendra, a Residential School for the mentally challenged children in the campus on 31.03.2005, the public and the sisters requested the chief guest of the day, Shri Jagadish Metgud, the local MLA for permission to open a regular School in Bailhongal. The permission was granted immediately. Thus Carmel Vidya Vikas School and also Carmel English Medium High School came into existence managed by the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society.

With the Government policy to have Kannada as the medium of instruction from Std. I to V, the school suffered a great deal until 2016 when they obtained the permission for English as the medium of instruction. The first batch of SSLC students moved out in 2016 bringing laurels to the school as five of them scored above 97%. With the motto Live, Love, Serve the school is progressing rapidly in every field both in curricular and co-curricular activities.
